Today is Inauguration Day in the United States. It is and has been for the last 228 years, a time honored tradition for the country and its people. Another classic American tradition is apple pie. Here is a fantastic recipe to cook up on this day to honor our founding forefathers and rule makers of today.

Dough:

2 1/2 Cups of Flour
1 TSP of Sugar
1 TSP of Salt
2 Sticks of Butter
1/2 Cup of Ice Water
Filling:

8 Apples
2 TBL of Butter
1 1/4 Cup of Sugar
1 TBL of Cinnamon
1 TBL of Nutmeg
3 TBL of Flour
Wash:
1 Egg White
Coarse Sugar
How- To:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
For the dough:
Combine flour, salt and sugar.
Add butter
Slowly add water
Mix all together and split into two.
Chill in the fridge
While waiting for the dough, peel and slice apples and mix all ingredients together.

Once ready, roll out down and place in pie tin. Add filling- go for it- fill it up. With the other half of dough, roll out and place on top. Score in a design or cut top dough into strips, creating a weaved top.  Pinch edges with a fork.

In a bowl, crack an egg, keeping only the egg whites. Use this as a wash and brush over top of pie, sprinkle sugar on top.

Bake for 50 minutes and serve while hot!
